Birthday recap

If you follow my blog, you probably remember my birthday round up here.  Love birthdays!!!  This year was a little different for me.  I've struggled with how or what to write, or not write anything at all about it....I'm rambling.  The next paragraph or so is going to be a little personal, if its too much, feel free to skip down to the pics.

Last Friday was my golden birthday.....28 on the 28th.  My fiance and kiddos had a great day all planned, dinner with our AZ fam, and a movie.  I even had a special birthday outfit all picked out {everyone does that, right?}  Meanwhile in WA, my amazing Grandma had been in the hospital for 10 days.  She had a terrible spill, broke 5 (yikes!!!) ribs and was pretty bruised up.  She had gone back and forth with getting better/worse.  As life happens, I'm saddened to say she "graduated" <--(in her words) and passed away.  Its a bittersweet moment, she was in a lot of pain and I'm sure has been missing my Grandpa terribly, but selfishly, I needed her in our lives still.  There are no words to say when you lose someone you love, especially on your birthday.  On a day that is supposed to be full of celebration, not sadness and tears.  I'm at a loss honestly.  She truly had an amazing soul, and her kindness will forever inspire me.  I started this blog more of as a diary of projects, and things/spaces I loved, I never intended on being so personal, but you all have been so supportive.  I felt I couldn't write a post about my birthday, without mentioning my Grandma.  Hence the distance with blogging.  I've decided going forward, on October 28th, not only will I be celebrating another year, but I will be celebrating the life of my amazingly sweet Grandma.  Love and miss her so much already.

Needless to say, I wasn't up for dinner or a movie out.  in actuality, I wanted to skip my birthday all together.  With emotions running high all day, I took a break on the patio and ended up taking a nap late afternoon.  While I was sleeping, Joshy Bobby took our kids on a few errands....refusing to allow me to pretend it wasn't my birthday.  I awoke to find gorgeous fresh flowers, food from one of our fav restaurants and a birthday cake complete with candles!!  It was spectac, they knew exactly what I needed.

Quiet time on the patio.

Our puppy Bronx keeping me company.

Surprise!!!

Oreo cake, wine and salami with cheese & bread.

Those fries and sauce, are seriously no joke delish!!!  I could eat them every day.  The Tuscan flat bread pizza is also drool worthy.  Yum....writing about them, makes me instantly starving.

A few have emailed asking about the gifts......

Can I ever have enough books?  I think not!
These are the 4 I received:

My little girls also got me some fancy crackle nail polish.  :)

I also received a sweet owl candle, an amazing ring and gift card to my fav:  homegoods!!

Feeling like the luckiest girl in the world, even throughout the mourning.

xo,

Patience

  2. Ah, I'm so sorry Patience. I'm glad you had such an amazing Grandma that you obviously loved so much and looked up to, that is a gift not everyone has! Which makes it all the harder to not have her here anymore. Hugs friend! Also what a wonderful man to get the kiddos involved and still celebrate you and your birthday! Thanks for sharing with us!

  3. Awwww babe :( Big hugs. I lost my Grandma as well a few weeks' ago and was pretty much a mess for a good few days so I can only just imagine how hard it must have been for this to be on your birthday.

Sounds like your lovely family provided exactly what you needed and spoiled you a bit as well - I'm sure your Grandma would have wanted that for you too! xxx

  4. So sorry for your loss. My MIL passed away on my birthday a few years ago. She and I were extremely close. It was really hard for a couple of birthdays, but now I can enjoy my day and remember all the goodness that she brought into my life. I know that will happen for you, too. I'm so glad your family went ahead with a celebration. It sounds like it was just what you needed, whether you realized it or not.

I'm one of the Phx area bloggers who had hoped to get to meet you at the blogger dinner, but we will just have to plan another one. I'm a new follower of your blog -- it looks like a lot of fun.
